We had a lovely time celebrating Christmas Around the World this afternoon in Church. We were joined by family and friends while the children shared different aspects about Christmas. The singing raised the roof and our Red Admiral Brass Players brought the service to a close by leading everyone in We Wish You a Merry Christmas.

The children and staff had a lovely start to Wednesday by visiting the members of Mawdesley U3A to sing some Christmas songs for their gathering. It was lovely to see the children on the stage with their super collection of Christmas hats and to hear their enthusiasm as they sang a selection of songs such as Away in Manger, Mary Had a Baby, Midnight and We Wish You a Merry Christmas. The audience loved the singing so much that the children performed an encore. Thanks to all the children, staff and Mrs Hannaford, our wonderful music teacher for all their hard work and lovely singing.

Getting in to the festive mood, we enjoyed our Christmas lunch and a sing-a-long today.

This half term Class 1 have been learning about significant people in history and how they helped to change the world. They have learned about Louis Braille and Helen Keller. Today, we looked at people who are still alive and show resilience, learning to live with disabilities such as Rob Burrows, Ellie Simmonds and others. The children explored ways of playing games and performing other activities, such as folding clothes, using other parts of their bodies than they would normally use.

Children had a lovely surprise today when they spent the morning working in the hall with Stephen from Creative Builders Workshops. Stephen brought with him over 5000 Lego pieces and the whole school spent the morning working on creating a Winter Wonderland scene. The buildings were fantastic, with the children being creative and learning new skills such as how to build a Lego Christmas Tree or a Lego Christmas Present. At the end of the morning everyone agreed that the Winter Wonderland looked superb and the children thought it was the best school morning ever!

A great school trip to Chester Zoo

What a week it has been for Sport! Monday saw Classes 2 & 3 take part in The Chorley Sports Partnership Pentathlon Challenge. This involved completing 5 challenges: • Speed Bounce • Vertical Jump • 100m Sprint • Long Jump • Chest Push The children took part with determination and courage and we are waiting to see which step on the Sporting Ladder of Excellence each child has received. Tuesday saw members of KS2 take part in The Chorley Sports Partnership Sportshall Athletics, an intense evening of indoor and field events. Our school displayed excellent team spirit encouraging each other to produce spectacular results in their heats. On Wednesday, the whole school competed in the Lancashire Active Mile Challenge with everyone running a mile around the playground. Having observed all our children give 100% this week, we are very proud of you all. You are all Sporting Super Stars – Well done!

We had another busy day yesterday in school with all of the children having a visit from Megan, a member of the Life Bus team. The visit was based around a variety of age-appropriate presentations and activities for the children. My Wonderful Body was the theme for Year 1 and Year 2, this was followed by a session on Friends for Year 5 & Year 6. In the afternoon Reception took part in an All About Me session and Year 3 & 4 finished the day with a session entitled Meet the Brain. Once again, it was lovely to see the children enjoying their learning so much and taking advantage of the lively and informative sessions. Our thanks to Megan who worked with the children and staff today.

The children had a great afternoon today with a visit from Dylan's Reptiles. We spent time in the hall looking at a Corn Snake, Bearded Dragon, Blue Tongue Skink, Leopard Gecko, Tarantula and a Boa Constrictor. The children were able to stroke the animals, ask questions and find out lots of new information about the animals from Dylan. Lots of brave children held the Boa Constrictor and were amazed at how heavy it was! A super way to start the week.

Congratulations to our children who achieved, between them, two 1sts, a 2nd, three 3rds and ‘A Best in Show’ in the Art Competition at Mawdesley Village Show last weekend. We are very proud of you, and all our children who designed a crown in Remembrance of Queen Elizabeth II.

Our traditional, end of year game of dodgeball. Staff v Y6. Staff won for the second year running - we are on a roll! We'll not talk about all the previous years!

Having been nominated for a PE award with Chorley Sports Partnership, we were delighted to be awarded 'Inclusive PE and Sport Award Runner Up 2021 - 2022'. Congratulations to all our children, staff, sports coaches and parents who share in our school ethos that everyone has the unique abilities to reach their full potential and is valued. Well done - we are proud of you all.

Today we had our Year 6 Leavers Assembly. They leave us with many memories, some of which they shared with us today. We wish them all the best for the future.

If you go down in the woods today, you're sure of a big surprise... Some of our children have been having a go at personification. Their pieces of work are displayed in our forest area if you would like to take a look. Please keep to the path in the church grounds, the forest area is out of bounds without staff present. Thank you.

We’ve had a lovely start to the week with Sparkle Day being a huge success. Children and staff came to school in their finest sparkle to raise money for the Sparkle Bean Trust set up by Tarleton Community Primary School in response to the unexpected death of a child from their school. The Sparkle Bean Trust aims to provide support for a school which experiences such a traumatic event. Today, through the generosity of our families and staff, we have raised over £200 for the Trust. Thank you for supporting such a worthy cause. There are Sparkle Bands available in school if anyone would like to buy one for £1 and the proceeds of each sale will also go to the trust.
